Going Green Through RECs

green policy

Buying green energy is not your only option for going green. Not everyone has access to green energy options, and if you find yourself in that number, renewable energy credits, or RECs, is the way to go. Environmentally-savvy people have come up with ways for those of us in areas where green energy is simply not available to give back to the environment exactly what our energy usage takes out of it. And where can you sign up for this, you ask? Right here on GreenEnergyChoice.

What is an REC?

An REC represents one megawatt hour (MWh) of renewable electricity generated and delivered somewhere on the power grid. Each MWh of clean renewable electricity results in one less MWh of non-renewable power. In essence, an REC represents the environmental benefits of replacing dirty power with clean power.

Why buy RECs?

Although you can get RECs for a number of reasons, many people opt to get RECs when they cannot get renewable energy through an electricity provider. An REC's value does not stop there. You can also purchase RECs to counteract the negative effects of your natural gas consumption, your gasoline consumption through travel, and any other ways that you may be negatively impacting the environment.

Do I actually get Green Energy when I purchase RECs?

Unfortunately, you do not. However, renewable electricity does not need to reach your home to benefit the environment. When renewable electricity is delivered to the power grid it can go in many directions just like conventional electricity.

Okay, I am ready, how do I purchase?

Making the decision was the hard part — purchasing RECs is easy. Just click here to calculate and order RECs and do your part to help the environment.
